Utki i Vafli
Duck, waffles and a dash of hipster
Comfortable interior with a bit of attitude — lightbulbs hanging down low from the ceiling, spacious rooms, suede sofas. The menu is divided into two parts: breakfast, served until 6 p.m., and everything else, served at all hours. The menu is largely poultry, and of course waffles, and all their iterations: with salmon, sprats, ham, pepperoni, waffle cones and rolls.

Edison Gastropub
English pub meets Italian bistro
Traditional pub grub with a modern twist plus the chef's own Italian-leaning creations. Good wine list, lots of beer ?€” including their own Edison brand. The pub also has a modest Asian menu for pub crawlers who can't live a second without sushi. Decor: traditional English pub mixed with steampunk Thomas Edison. On weekends the pub frequently organizes parties.

Dukhless Bar
Cool cocktails with a side of writer chic
The brainchild of controversial writer Sergei Minayev, this atmospheric bar just off Tverskaya boasts a range of cocktails, other alcoholic and soft drinks, and DJ performances every Friday and Saturday night. The venue aspires to be anything but "soulless": Bukowski and Chekhov look down from the exposed brick walls. Fancy a glass of bourbon to go with a good book? This may just be the place for you.

Yesenin
Best of Russian cuisine, with a twist
A more decorous affair than the troublemaker poet's name suggests, chef Konstantin Ivlev's new offering aims to satisfy culinary conservatives without being boring. The menu reads like an ABC of traditional Russian cuisine, but familiar dishes are served in a modern, upscale way. Dance fans will want to check out the bar named after Yesenin's wife Isadora Duncan.

A Message from The Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."
These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.
We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.
Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
Remind me later.
